2/18 Club Represented at the BHS 8th Grade Transition Night
Club President Hunter Rich reports that the BHS Boys Lacrosse Club manned a Club information table at the BHS 8th Grade Transition Night on February 18th. Along with Board member Paul Ahern, Coach Craig Niven, Hunter Rich Jr., and Quinn Regan, the club ambassadors answered the questions of soon-to-be freshmen and signed up prospective players and parents for the club's mailing list. The club's "head of recruiting", Paul Ahern, had lacrosse balls with the club website written on them which he gave each boy that signed up. Over 39 boys signed up. While many of the interested boys currently play lacrosse, a number of the boys who signed up were new to the game but are good athletes.
As many of these new players wanted to know how they could get started in the game before next year, Coach Brian Niven will investigate a free on-day clinic for the future Broncos.

10/13 IHSA Board Approves Lacrosse State Series For 2010-11
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors approved a recommendation at its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, October 13 to adopt an official State Series for the sports of Boys Lacrosse and Girls Lacrosse beginning with the 2010-11 school term. The official IHSA lacrosse season, State Series and State Finals will be contested during the spring semester.
The addition of lacrosse will bring the total number of boys and girls sports contesting state championships to 15 apiece, while the overall number of IHSA sports and activities will grow to 43.
“The goal of the IHSA is to provide quality interscholastic opportunities for students in the state and the Board recognized that the addition of boys and girls lacrosse helps support that mission,” said IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman. “The Board’s decision was consistent with the procedures used when adopting several other recent sports and activities, including water polo and journalism.”
The Board did create a contingency that 65 boys lacrosse teams and 40 girls lacrosse teams must be registered to participate in the state series by the February 1, 2011 spring sport deadline in order for either sport to crown a state champion in 2010-11. According to the IHSA Emerging Sports List, there are currently 65 schools fielding boys lacrosse teams in the state and 40 fielding girls lacrosse teams.
Even if the contingency prevents the inaugural state series from occurring during the 2010-11 school term, Hickman reiterated that the Board’s decision on Tuesday will only help the sport’s growth in Illinois.
“The Board felt it was important to put contingencies in place to preserve the esteem of the tournament and crowning a state champion, even if it has the possibility of delaying the start of a state series until beyond 2010-11. Regardless, we feel like the IHSA’s endorsement of the sport will help bring more legitimacy to club and intramural programs around the state and that many more schools will field squads in the coming years.”
Currently, 17 other state associations crown champions in boys and girls lacrosse.

8/28 Coaches Encourage Fall Activities
As the 2009/2010 school year got into full swing, the Coaches wanted to bring to parents and players attention some great opportunities for growing player skills over the fall. Below was the list of camps, clinics and leagues that the coaching staff recommended as high quality and have a significant impact on a player's lacrosse abilities
* Fall 2009 Ante Up Camp
* BHS Fall/Winter Lifting Program
* Fall Ball Lacrosse Leagues (True Lacrosse or Lacrosse America)
To learn more, the coaches posted a flyer available via this link.
In the flyer, the coaches stressed the importance of honing lacrosse skills outside of the pre-season and regular season. The aforementioned opportunities provide a great opportunity for physical growth and development of individual skills. Improvement in these two areas can significantly enhance the program as a whole looking toward the 2010 season.
7/10-12 Quinn Reagan on Championship Team
The 9th annual Tri-State National Summer Lacrosse Festival featured fierce competition, great action and most importantly a wonderful weekend for players and parents.
Participants came from throughout the country. This year 15 states were represented and teams came from as far as California, Minnesota and Washington. Championship games saw the rise of non-traditional areas such as the Rising Senior B Champion from Illinois, Junior A Runner-up Team Trident Gold and Rising Junior B Champions, the Georgia Peaches.
For 3 days, players came together to play hard and didn't disappoint. The level of play rivaled the best the tournament has ever seen.
Barrington's defensive ace Quinn Reagan was a member of the "Rising Senior B" class national champion from Illinois.
